The University of Oulu (UO) is the only research university in Finland holding the ECTS Label and is committed to leading research and education in its focus areas. The UO has ten faculties (Education, Humanities, Medicine, Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, Mining, Architecture, Technology, Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, Science and Business) and ca 14 000 students who are studying in 45 programmes. The UO’s graduates are employed in exceptionally wide range of businesses, government organisations and NGOs all around the world. Due to it’s geographic location the UO provides educated workforce for over half of Finland’s geographic area. The UO quality assurance system has been approved by the Finnish Education Evaluation Centre and it follows the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (http://www.enqa.eu/index.php/home/esg/).
Learning and Educational Technology (LET) research unit focuses its research and teaching on the learning sciences and technology-enhanced learning. The members of this research group have particular expertise in the integration of theoretical perspectives on the social, cognitive and motivational processes of learning and utilizing it in research-based design. In practice the unit aims for understanding the “skill and will” of learning and design future innovations for learning.
LET Research Unit was successful in the Oulu University RAE 2014 evaluation (Research Assessment Exercise). International panel of experts ranked LET as the 6th best research community within the University of Oulu. LET also conducted various international projects funded by EU and the Academy of Finland. LET research unit has more than 20 years of experience in arranging the research-based studies in learning and technology.
