Report: Cultural heritage threats and the role of citizen engagement inside and outside universities

The INOS project successfully organised a webinar on “Cultural heritage threats and the role of citizen engagement inside and outside universities”, on June 10. The webinar called the attention of participants to the need of safeguarding cultural assets in times of conflict, thus focusing on the current efforts to help protect and preserve Ukrainian cultural heritage. A special focus was placed on the role of open innovation in cultural heritage protection, as showcased by the collection of initiatives created by Web2Learn (also on github), as well as the value of resilience and action-taking for cultural heritage preservation during the conflict as it has been outlined in the position paper written by Katerina Zourou and Stefania Oikonomou.

The webinar hosted five speakers. Their talk titles and presentations were as follows:

  • Katerina Zourou (Web2Learn), “Cultural heritage threats and the role of citizen engagement inside and outside universities” (presentation available here).
  • Andrea Segerberg (University of Gothenburg/ SUCHO initiative), “SUCHO: A global community of volunteers with the aim to help preserve Ukraine’s online cultural heritage” (presentation available here).
  • Julia Pagel (NEMO), “Museums Supporting Ukraine-Agility in Crises” (presentation available here).
  • Vasyl Rozhko (HERI initiative, Ukraine), “Heritage Emergency Response Initiative” (presentation available here).
  • Stefania Oikonomou, Katerina Zourou (Web2Learn), “Citizen engagement in Ukrainian cultural heritage preservation” (presentation available here).
